Internet Conference 2018 (Tokyo)

The international conference “Internet Conference 2018” held in Tokyo, Japan, attracted speakers from around the world related to the world of Internet. In addition, this conference hosts a poster session with students from different universities in Japan.
During the event, the latest trends and initiatives related to the Internet were presented. My participation as a guest speaker was the presentation of the SmartSantander project and the use of the Internet of Things technology. During the presentation the architecture of the infrastructure deployed in the city was described, as well as the federation initiatives to ensure interoperability between different wireless sensor networks from other smart cities and Santander.

The conference had the participation of many speakers, both from Japan and the rest of the world. My presentation, held during the second day of the conference, took place under the section called “Research Topics Exchange”. From the conference I would like to highlight several presentations:
Jun Muray, who is part of Keio University and is considered one of the pioneers in the introduction of Internet worldwide (he was the first person in Japan to make an internet connection to the United States). During his presentation, “Internet Civilization” presented the latest challenges in the framework of communications to reach all corners of the world, and the sociological impact of them.
Paul Vixie, currently CEO of Fairsight Security, is one of the creators of the DNS system as we know it today. During his presentation, he introduced the problems derived from the inclusion of encryption in DNS. More specifically, regarding to the use of HTTPS, which will not allow anyone to monitor DNS resolution apart from the servers and clients.
