The international conference “Aveiro TechDays 2018” held in Aveiro, Portugal, presented the advances in different fields of engineering and technology both in Portugal and the rest of the world.
During the event, various initiatives were presented within several areas: Industry 4.0 and Smart Cities. In addition, there were also several exhibitors with the latest developments in topics as diverse as virtual reality or autonomous driving vehicles.
In the event, my participation as a guest speaker was the presentation of the work carried out in the SmartSantander project. During this presenation, several examples of the application of technology in the services of the city of Santander were presented, in addition to the infrastructure deployed during the project.
The conference had the participation of several speakers, both from Portugal and the rest of the world, mainly from the European Union. For example, Michael Guerin, coordinator of the “Smart Docklands” project, of the Dublin City Hall. During his presentation he showed the various actions that are being carried out in Dublin, including investments and collaborations with companies based in the city, such as Google. Similarly, Oliver Hall, head of the technology investment division for the city of Copenhagen, presented Copenhagen’s current situation in the field of smart cities, including initiatives not only to provide services to citizens, but also research, such as the deployment of intelligent luminaires in collaboration with Philips.
